About Pursuing-God.org

Not long after I first read A.W. Tozer’s The Pursuit of God I told a friend that I truly believe the book has the potential to transform the Christian church at it’s core. I think that friend took my words with a grain of salt, because, I confess, those are pretty lofty words. But after the second reading, I was all the more convinced. After each subsequent reading, I became more and more convinced that this single book can serve immeasurably in bringing believers closer to God and His Son Jesus Christ; closer in a sense that can only be understood in terms of the human spirit as created by the Divine Spirit.

It was during my third reading of The Pursuit of God that I considered creating a journal of sorts, where I can describe my journey as I pursue God. Tozer’s book is central to that journey, but there are many other resources that have had an extraordinary impact on me as well, whether they are Bible studies, books on prayer, and many others I’m sure I haven’t come across yet.

But still, The Pursuit of God is central to my journey. Any words I’ve read of another person regarding this book have agreed with what I continue to learn: that The Pursuit of God has the potential to transform the reader. In his Introduction of the edition of the book that I have (ISBN 978-0-7642-1624-4), James L. Snyder, whose first book was the biography In Pursuit of God: The Life of A.W. Tozer, tells the story of a retired missionary in Snyder’s childhood church who gave him a copy of the book. Each Sunday she would ask if he’d read it and he would be honest and confess that he hadn’t. Finally he decided there was only one way to stop her asking him each week. He would read the first chapter and be done with it.

So I found The Pursuit of God and began reading it. That was the end of my life as I knew it. I was amazed by what I read. Up to this point, I had believed that any book written by a preacher would be too theologically sophisticated and full of religious jargon for me to understand. However, much to my delight, Tozer’s teaching was simple and clear. Here was a man writing on my level, and teaching things about God in such a manner that I understood what he was saying. I have to say the impact on me was nearly as profound as it was on James L. Snyder, profound enough to compel me to write this.

Each of the journal entries I add to this site allow visitors to post a comment. I sincerely hope that what I’ve shared will be found worth commenting on.

For the longest time, I thought that who I am was of little or no consequence to my purpose. But without at least putting my name to this work, there is no accountability. So for that purpose alone, I introduce myself.

My name is Rob Grieshaber, 30 of my 68 years (as of January 2026) a believer in Jesus Christ, and still very much a work in progress.

One final comment: throughout this site I refer to books and possibly other resources, and those references will generally include a link to another website where the resource may be purchased. I make no income from those links, through affiliate programs or any other means. That’s not what this work is about.
