Where do I begin?

As Dr. Tozer said, our pursuit of God begins with God first putting the desire in our hearts. And my deciding to journal my pursuit certainly shows how much He put the desire in my heart.

I’ve now read through the ten chapters of The Pursuit of God, reading each chapter at least twice, most of them three times. And there is so much that Tozer says about how this pursuit is so relevant to me.

As I try to determine what purpose God has for me, I see that drawing closer and closer to Him is the very first thing I must do. How else can I know God’s will for me?

Overcoming the distractions as I try to pray … Ignoring the temptations the enemy puts before me, and draws my attention to … Pastor John Davidson of Evangel Temple hit the nail on the head in his sermon on Jan 4, 2026, saying that Jesus said we must pray that we won’t give in to temptation (Luke 22:39-40).

“Temptation” is a much more broad term than we realize!

Going back to the opening of Dr. Tozer’s book The Pursuit of God, I find it amazing that God would place the desire within me. If I tell myself that I am an atheist – as I certainly did some 30 years ago, before I accepted the truth of God’s being very real – how much more does it take for God to reach through my obstinacy? There is where I am completely amazed!

Why would God go through the trouble?! Of what value could my accepting Him be?? I’m not an eloquent or articulate writer or speaker, so I have no reason to hope that this website will help even a single unbeliever find faith in God, to accept the salvation Jesus promises us.

But there is a much more effective way to be a witness of Jesus’s salvation. And that is to LIVE for Jesus, so that others can see Him through my life:

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

For this to happen, there has to be a transforming of who I am. And that’s exactly what God did:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 2:17
